To the Barony of Exeter, and the wider Free Lost,

As is the ancient tradition of my order; you are invited to the burning of the wicker devil, a celebration of burning away the past, much as leaves are shed in their ember shades of red and orange.

My name is Soothsayer Calchas.

For years my hermitage, the Cave of Stars, has been shrouded in mists. I have seen in my sea of stars that I have your Barony and its peoples to thank for that. My augury suggests that now is the time to reach out and once again share in the ancient rites. All who declare themselves free are welcome.

My cavern is ancient, and was mined and extended in ages past. The Stone of Beer, or the Free Stone as we know it, has been used in the construction of churches throughout devon. It has been the home of my order, the Twilight Gleaners of the Kingdom of Alpona, for some time.

As a soothsayer, I provide a channel to fate, and will permit supplicants to ask one question to my mirror of omens.

So join me this Sunday; you will find the door in the caverns of Beer, which should be open to the public. The local tour guide is a fae-touched under my care, who willingly works with your Court of Winter. They will permit you access upon presentation of your credentials.

As is the way of my court, I will be inviting people in from the first whisper of dusk, and you may stay until the first light of dawn.

It shall be as it was always going to be,

Come in peace and be prepared to walk in the half-light.

OOC: Real world entrance to a vast hollow. The caves are closed in the later months of the year for work, but you seem to be expected and welcomed inside.

Anybody who does a modicum of research will find references to this ceremony, combined with something called Crying the Neck, and also to Calchas’ order, though not necessarily to Calchas herself. The cave of stars is considered one of the important locations of the Freehold and there is a warm response in general chatter across the Freehold in the knowledge that it has been recovered from the mists.

"My fellow changelings, I don't often have cause to make invitations despite being your Baron.

It's not my style. However, I would like to turn your attention to the Festival of the Hare.

Those of you who are new may not know, but the Freehold, the Kingdom of Alpona, has a seasonal tradition, marked by occasions that herald or enlighten us as to the nature of the upcoming season.

On the nights following the longest day, a procession leads from Torquay market and moves across our Barony.

It is traditional that one of our number challenges the goblin champion in this procession to a duel, and takes from that goblin the title of the Hare for the evening. They then don traditional attire and must take part in the rolling of the cheese.

It is the way of things, has always been the way of things.

Please meet me at the challenge grounds, a hedge gated area enterable from our side near Newton Abbot, located in the cattle market beneath the multi-story car park on Market Street (It's closed on Thursdays). I suggest we meet in the nearby pub 'The Jolly Farmer'. I've booked out a back room. Then I'll take us down to the festival at some point.

Squire Redfern, Baron of Exeter."

- Main game premise

"Hey,

Do some of you remember you promised you'd help me to move some wholesale wares for a festival, well this is it. I need help getting the cheese to the festival for the rolling, or we'll have to use the competition cheeses. Which will be a sad day for everyone. Plus I'm bringing all the beer.

Marjorum - Official representative of the Associated Cheesemongers of Cheddar Gorge"

- Away mission, which will start at the beginning of the game, for anybody interested.

"I've got Skree with me, he's agreed to talk to some people about what's happened to Grenville. Squire Godfrey "

- Away mission, which shouldn't take very long, aim to get it done before the game.
Mon 25 May 15 19:30 - Mon 25 May 15 23:30

Member's of the Barony of Exeter

Too long have we sat back and watched our county devoured by the mists, villages and baronies swallowed whole by it's advance. I was inspired to see new blood on Sunday, those who will stand up and fight for us.

To that end I propose an expedition, the first of I hope many missions to get to the bottom of this problem.

My friend, Ranger Grenville, noted hedge explorer was doing some research into the causes of the mist before I lost touch with him last year, I have made several attempts to contact him since, his last missive telling me he was on the verge of a discovery which could form a basis of a campaign of action.

My intention was to put together a team of willing and able free lost to travel to his territory, the associated free lands of Clovelly, and to report back what they can find. I will be calling on Squire Godfrey to act as my deputy in this matter, he will attend you in the back room of the Red Lion, a local pub I have hired for the occassion, and will have further details. I do not know what we will find but I have given Godfrey some equipment you might find useful.

This expedition will require wit and guile as well as muscle and steel I'm sure. So any who are available will make welcome additions to the team.

Yours in arms,

Baron Redfern,

Squire of the Broken Bough

Veteran of the Wall

PS. Thank you to all who attended the charity gala, I have spread the funds generated amongst the courts, it will be up to the designated court representatives in the area how the amounts will be spent. I shall hold a small Barony meeting next month on the evening of the Summer Fayre.
